Community and Capital

We will deconstruct impact initiatives and explore what capital and community is needed to shift the systems holding us all back. Then together we will work on a process and codesign the resourcing required beyond the grant cycle. A practical session that will include unlocking and unleashing dollars and doers.

Meet the Activators

  • Cameron Neil

    Cameron is co-founder and director of Red Hat Impact, a boutique impact finance company, helping enterprises, investors and organisations to solve problems, break barriers and grow impact, predominantly in the Asia-Pacific. Cameron and Red Hat Impact are passionate about collaborating with beneficiaries and partners to develop innovative solutions such as the trade finance vehicle for Pacific menstrual health enterprises. Together with StartSomeGood, Red Hat Impact is pioneering crowd lending approaches to bridging the missing middle in impact finance and launching LendForGood to the world.

  • Moira Were

    Moira has worked from the kitchen table as a direct service social worker through to the cabinet table as a Chief of Staff to a Minister. She has extensive strategic and operational experience in the not-for-profit sector and in government at state, regional, national & international levels. Currently Moira is a Director of Ethical Fields and a global facilitator for the global perpetual fund SheEO. Moira is the founder of Chooks SA, Hen House Co-op working on closing the gender investment gap. Together with Sarah Gun and Amy Orange, she is co-founder of the social enterprise intermediary Collab4Good. Moira received an Australian honour in 2019 (AM) for her significant voluntary service to the community of South Australia. She lives with gratitude on Kaurna land at Sellicks Beach in South Australia where she can be found singing in a local gospel choir, tending to her vegetable garden and learning about Minecraft from her grandson.

  • Theresa Brown

    Theresa has worked in the community sector as a Community Development Manager and Service Development Manager for over 20 years in both local government and not for profit organisations.

    She is the founder of ‘Play it On’ a social enterprise that provides funding to assist children from families that are financially challenged, to play their chosen sport through the collection and sale of new and used sporting equipment. Theresa is a founding member of SASEC (South Australian Social Enterprise Council) and the newly elected Chair of its first democratically elected Board.

  • Tom Dawkins

    Tom Dawkins is Co-founder and CEO of social impact crowdfunding platform and innovation agency StartSomeGood, and Co-founder of new crowdlending platform LendForGood.

    Tom is a leading speaker and advocate for social enterprise and teacher of community-building and fundraising skills. He is a director of the Centre for Social Impact and the Social Enterprise Council of NSW and the ACT.
